<Black Clover Season 2 official main trailer>

Let's look back at how it was announced. Season 2 was first revealed at Anime Expo in July 2025, and a trailer followed at Jump Festa 2026 in December of that year.

A second trailer featuring the opening song came out at Anime Expo in July 2026. In North America, Crunchyroll also held an early screening in September.

An English dub has been confirmed too, though its date hasn't been announced.

✦ Before Season 2, watch in this order

A suggested order for newcomers

1Season 1, 170 episodes
A recap covering the main thread works if that's too much
2The film "Sword of the Wizard King" (standalone, optional)
3Season 2, episode 1
Airs October 3

For anyone new, a quick look at Season 1. It ran for about four years, 170 episodes without a break, adapting the manga up to chapter 270.

It's the story of Asta, a boy who can't use magic, and Yuno, a genius mage, both aiming to become the Wizard King. It stopped on a cliffhanger after covering only the prologue of the Spade Kingdom arc.

The 2023 film "Sword of the Wizard King" is an original story that is not in the manga. It is a standalone film set during the six-month training period between episodes 157 and 158 of the TV series, so it is not a required link before Season 2.

A quick look at the main cast, too. Asta, the lead, can't use magic but wields anti-magic that cuts through spells.

Yuno, abandoned at the same church on the same day, is a genius mage with a four-leaf clover grimoire, Asta's rival and oldest friend.

Asta's squad, the Black Bulls, is a band of troublemakers, but they're tightly bound around their captain, Yami.

To enjoy Season 2 properly, I recommend this order. First watch Season 1's 170 episodes, then Season 2 episode 1. The film is a standalone story you can enjoy separately when you have time.

If 170 episodes feels like too much, a recap that covers the main thread should be enough to follow Season 2.

✦ How Season 2 is reportedly split

26 episodes, two parts (reported)

26 episodes
(reported)
in total
Part 1
13 episodes
Starts October 3
(reported)
Part 2
13 episodes
2027, "The Final Season"
(reported)

The most important news is the episode count. Season 2 is reported to have 26 episodes in total, split into two parts of 13 episodes each.

Part 1 starts October 3. Part 2, said to be subtitled "The Final Season," would follow in 2027, but this is not officially confirmed yet.

If that holds, Season 2 will be the final season of the anime. The manga itself ended on May 1, 2026.

✦ How many manga chapters per episode?

122 chapters left to fit into 26 episodes

Ideal pace
~3
chapters per episode
Season 2's math
~5
chapters per episode

The problem is the pace. 122 chapters of the manga are left, and if they fit into 26 episodes, that works out to roughly 5 chapters per episode.

The ideal pace is considered about 3 chapters per episode, so this is much faster.

There are also reports that the studio is adding material not in the manga, so the pace is fans' biggest worry.

There's something to look forward to as well. The earlier series was criticized for uneven animation because it aired for nearly four years without a break.

This time the production takes breaks, so movement is smoother from the trailer onward and the character designs are much crisper. Some compare the change to what Pierrot did with Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War.

✦ Early screening review, Episode 1

One overseas outlet's verdict: 8 out of 10

What worked
Lighting and body language beat Season 1
No filler
What didn't
Some shadow-magic effects look awkward
The "Petit Clover" segments are gone
It feels like setup before the big payoff

There's also an overseas review from an early screening. One outlet gave Episode 1 an 8, praising the lighting and body language as better than Season 1 and the lack of filler.

As negatives, it said some shadow-magic effects look awkward and the "Petit Clover" segments from Season 1 are gone.

Episode 1 is a setup before the real explosion, so the payoff you've waited for is pushed back.

✦ Where to watch, and what about Netflix?

As confirmed around October 1

CrunchyrollSeason 2 premieres October 3.
An English dub is confirmed, date TBA
NetflixNot airing Season 2.
Has the earlier series and the film

So where can you watch it? A lot of people probably wonder whether it's on Netflix, and from what's been confirmed, Season 2 is not a Netflix title.

Overseas outlets report that Season 2 streams on Crunchyroll, and Netflix's October anime lineup doesn't include Black Clover.

Netflix has the earlier series and the film "Sword of the Wizard King." The film in particular is only on Netflix, so it's a nice side story to enjoy before Season 2.

Spoiler alert!!!
Below this line there are some details from Season 2 Episode 1 (the manga's later story).

Season 2 Episode 1 covers manga chapters 271 to 275 and part of 276. It opens with Asta and Liebe attempting a Devil Union with Nacht Faust.

Next, the Magic Knights coordinate a plan to raid the Spade Kingdom and rescue the captured Yami and William. At the end an ancient devil appears and Mereoleona makes her entrance.

Season 2 will cover three arcs: the Spade Kingdom Raid, Hino Country, and Judgment Day. Cramming all three into one season is why that pace worry comes up.

In the manga's later story, you face the three siblings behind the Spade Kingdom's schemes, the Dark Triad, and their eldest, Lucius Zogratis. And the final battle... ahem. I'll stop here.

To sum up. Season 2 starts October 3, and it is reported to run 26 episodes in two parts of 13 into 2027. If that is right, it is the final season.

The animation is said to be clearly better, but the pace is a big worry since the remaining manga has to be compressed.

Season 2 airs on Crunchyroll, not Netflix. After five years of waiting, I hope they finish it properly this time.

Well then, shall we begin today's adventure?
