October has arrived, and fall anime is pouring out all at once. There are new series and returns after years away, so even choosing what to watch is not easy.
At times like this, looking at a show through its lead's MBTI adds one more bit of fun. What type is Asta, and what type is Maomao? Let's sort out this fall's protagonists.
Let me say this first. A character's MBTI is not a scientific test result. It comes from fan votes and guesses, so in this post I'll go with the type fans pick most often.
◆ Fall 2026 Premiere Timeline
The shows covered in this post, in date order
Sep. 27 · Overgeared (J.C.STAFF)
Oct. 2 · The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 (split into two parts)
Oct. 3 · Black Clover Season 2 (Studio Pierrot)
Oct. 4 · Aoashi Season 2 (TMS Entertainment)
Oct. 5 · PSYREN (Satelight)
Oct. 7 · Magic Knight Rayearth (E&H Production)
Oct. 9 · Firefly Wedding (david production)
Oct. 11 · Dragon Ball Super: Beerus (enhanced edition)
Let's start with the premiere dates. Overgeared began first on Sept. 27, then The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 on Oct. 2, Black Clover Season 2 on Oct. 3, and Aoashi Season 2 on Oct. 4.
After that come PSYREN on Oct. 5, Magic Knight Rayearth on Oct. 7, Firefly Wedding on Oct. 9, and Dragon Ball Super: Beerus on Oct. 11.
◆ Asta vs. Yuno: What the Fan Votes Say
Personality Database. Bar length is relative to 507 votes
Asta
Yuno (out of 1,037 votes)
Shonen first. Black Clover Season 2 premieres on Oct. 3, and Studio Pierrot is handling it. The director is Ayataka Tanemura.
On the fan voting site Personality Database, Asta is most often picked as an ESFP, with 416 votes. ENFP gets only 53. The idea is that his energy and habit of diving into the moment look like an ESFP.
Some in the fandom argue for ENFP, though. They see him as the type who runs toward an ideal, like Luffy or Gon.
For Yuno, the same site shows 507 of 1,037 votes for INTJ and 371 for ISTP. INTJ is the majority, but ISTP is no pushover.
His calm, quiet way and his habit of pushing a goal through to the end read as INTJ. Few words and proof through action read as ISTP.
The fiery Asta and the composed Yuno who stays a step ahead. The rivalry splits the same way in MBTI.
◆ Maomao at a Glance
The Apothecary Diaries Season 3, the type fans pick most
Next, the brainy protagonist. The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 returned on Oct. 2. This season is split in two, with Part 1 starting in October and Part 2 following in April 2027.
Maomao shows up as INTP on both Personality Database and getpersonality. Her Enneagram is 5w6.
The core of INTP is that curiosity that makes the eyes light up whenever poisons or herbs come up. She has no interest in what people really think, but in front of a mystery she digs to the very end.
One personality site also lists an ISTJ analysis, but I find the basis a bit weak.
◆ Ashito Aoi: One Site's Take
The source is weak, so take it lightly
One site's analysis, too thin to stand on its own
Aoashi Season 2 premieres on Oct. 4. Season 1 was made by Production I.G, and this time TMS Entertainment takes over. It runs 24 episodes.
The lead, Ashito Aoi, is described as an ISTJ in one personality site's analysis. That fits the image of a footballer who builds things up with diligence.
◆ Beerus: INTP or ISTP?
Opinions are split
Comic Book Resources (CBR)
Could erase Earth, but spares it out of curiosity
A forum user
Easygoing, then explodes when his pudding is taken
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus starts on Oct. 11. It is not a new story but an enhanced remake of the existing Dragon Ball Super, with added cuts and new voice recordings.
Beerus's MBTI is split. Comic Book Resources (CBR) called him an INTP. The reasoning is that he could wipe out Earth but spares it out of curiosity.
A forum, on the other hand, argued for ISTP. It reads his usual laid-back mood and his outburst when someone takes his pudding as a weak feeling function blowing up.
◆ Magic Knight Rayearth's Trio and Their MBTI Opinions
There is no consensus among fans yet
Ayane Sakura
ENFP (one site), ESFP (2014 forum), ISTP (another site)
Rumi Okubo
ESFJ (2014 forum, one person's view)
Rie Takahashi
ISFJ (2014 forum, one person's view)
A 90s legend is coming back too. Magic Knight Rayearth starts on Oct. 7 as a new anime marking the original's 30th anniversary. Yui Miura directs, with Ayane Sakura as Hikaru, Rumi Okubo as Umi and Rie Takahashi as Fuu.
Hikaru draws the most split opinions. One site files her as an ENFP (Enneagram 7w6), a 2014 forum post says ESFP, and another site says ISTP. Everyone agrees she is bright and brave, but they differ on where to put the focus.
The same 2014 forum post typed Umi as ESFJ and Fuu as ISFJ. That is one person's view, so it may not count as a type the fans have agreed on.
◆ Firefly Wedding: Series Info
This fall's dark horse
Oct. 9, Fuji TV's Noitamina block
david production
Lynn as Satoko, Koki Uchiyama as Shinpei
Manga's main story serialization ended Jan. 12, 2026 (chapter 79); 12 volumes out, Volume 13 due Oct. 19
No vote data found
This fall's dark horse is Firefly Wedding. It starts on Oct. 9 on Fuji TV's Noitamina block, and david production is making it.
Satoko, an earl's daughter in the Meiji era, does not have long to live because of her heart. Then an assassin, Shinpei Goto, appears before her, and the story begins when Satoko proposes to him to save her life.
Lynn voices Satoko and Koki Uchiyama voices Shinpei.
The source manga's main story serialization ended on January 12, 2026, with chapter 79. Twelve volumes are out, and Volume 13 is due on October 19. MBTI vote data for this one turned out to be a bit hard to find.
What type do you think Satoko and Shinpei would be?
◆ This Fall's Protagonists at a Glance
Based on the type fans pick most
To sum up: Asta is ESFP, Yuno is INTJ and Maomao is INTP, the types fans pick most. Beerus splits between INTP and ISTP, and Hikaru splits among ENFP, ESFP and ISTP.
I couldn't find reliable vote data for Ageha in PSYREN or Grid in Overgeared, so I didn't assign them a type. Heh. Still, the fact that there is even this much data means there must be that many anime fans.
Which protagonist shares your type? This fall, it might be nice to root for that protagonist while you watch. Under a blanket, peeling tangerines, you know. Hehe.
Well then, shall we begin today's adventure?
