✦ Season 2 at a Glance
Broadcast start and staff
On October 4, 2026, Blue Box (its official Korean title is 푸른 상자) season 2 began airing on TBS. Season 1 ended with 25 episodes running from October 2024 to March 2025, so it has come back after a year and a half.
The director is now Daisuke Sakou and the studio is Electric Circus, while Shoya Chiba as Taiki and Reina Ueda as Chinatsu are unchanged. Netflix has announced that season 2 will be released in October, and it is listed in Korea under the title 푸른 상자.
The series is based on a manga by Kouji Miura that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from April 2021 to July 2026.
It follows Taiki Inomata, a badminton club member, as he grows closer to Chinatsu, a senior in the basketball club at the same school, while spending time together in the gym each morning. This post contains a little of season 1, so keep that in mind.
(If you haven't watched season 1, it would be a spoiler, so stop right here! Shoo, shoo!)
✦ Four Cognitive Functions in Plain Words
The keys used to read the two
Let's cover MBTI briefly first. MBTI is a personality type tool that sorts people on four criteria and calls them by four letters. What matters in this post is the habit of mind attached to each type, the cognitive functions.
Roughly speaking, Fi is the habit of judging by your own inner values, and Se is the habit of throwing yourself wholly into the reality in front of you right now.
Ni is the habit of quietly drawing a picture of a distant future, and Fe is the habit of reading the feelings of the people around you and adjusting to them.
Taiki: ISFP
✦ Clues Pointing to Taiki as an ISFP
The classification is a fan and user interpretation, not a certainty
Some analyses see Taiki as an ISFP. Both getpersonality and Boo list Taiki as an ISFP. But all of these are interpretations by fans and users, so they should be treated as a likely analysis, not a certainty.
What character profiles commonly point to is a strong drive and stubbornness toward his goal, unhidden honesty, and kindness.
The romance manga recommendation site romancemangarecs describes Taiki as someone who is very reactive and a bit goofy, yet has a unique honesty and sincerity, and thinks lowly of himself.
The core of ISFP is Fi and Se. So this type stays true to its own values and tends to throw itself in with the body before thinking. Taiki is exactly like that.
His routine of coming to the gym early every morning to practice on his own is one example, and on the court he focuses on the single point of this very moment. That is Se, where the body moves ahead of the words.
✦ How Taiki Draws the Line
Season 1, in order
His honesty shows up strongly in the latter half of season 1. In episode 14, Hina confesses her feelings to Taiki, and in episode 24 Taiki clearly answers that he cannot accept those feelings.
In the English subtitles, he says in essence that his indecisiveness is only hurting her and that he wants to draw the line here. It is a scene where he does not lie to his own heart even though he knows the other person will be hurt.
That is why fans call Taiki a walking green flag. It can be read as the honesty of someone with a strong Fi.
Chinatsu: INFJ
✦ Chinatsu's MBTI Votes
Personality Index (PDX), 12 votes in total, so the sample is small
Many analyses see Chinatsu as an INFJ. Boo also classifies her as an INFJ, and on the personality data site Personality Index (PDX), 7 of 12 votes were INFJ, with 3 for ISFJ and 2 for ESFJ.
The sample is small, so it is hard to call it settled, but INFJ is ahead on other fan analysis sites too.
The core of INFJ is Ni and Fe. It is a type that holds on to a distant goal and pushes quietly forward while attentively reading the hearts of the people around it.
The same site that profiled Taiki describes Chinatsu as mature and level-headed and sure of her abilities and goals, a contrast to Taiki, who has an unstable side. Her biggest decision shows it.
Even though her parents are being posted overseas for work, Chinatsu stays in Japan, lives at Taiki's house, and sets her sights on the national tournament. Making a big decision without showing much emotion resembles the quiet resolve of Ni.
She is said to be relatively passive about romance. That connects with the Fe habit of reading the other person first and closing the distance carefully.
How Do the Two Fit Together?
✦ Taiki vs. Chinatsu
ISFP and INFJ, what they share and where they differ
What they share is that both are introverted (I) and value feeling (F). They share the quiet routine of the morning gym, and their conversations run on values and empathy.
Rather than quarreling loudly, it looks like a relationship built up at each one's own pace.
The difference is the direction of the gaze. Taiki is absorbed in this moment, while Chinatsu looks at the far-off national tournament.
Taiki's honest Fi becomes a channel for showing his heart to the reserved Chinatsu, and Chinatsu's attentive Fe becomes a support for the unstable Taiki. It can be read as a structure where each fills the other's gaps.
That said, judging compatibility with MBTI has weak grounds. Psychology Today pointed out that there is practically no evidence supporting the use of MBTI to gauge couples' compatibility.
The compatibility talk in this post is also just an interpretation for fun.
To sum up, Taiki can be read as an ISFP who cannot lie to his own heart, and Chinatsu as an INFJ walking quietly toward a distant goal.
They share similarities and differences, so perhaps that is why a morning spent facing each other in the same gym looks all the more special.
What to Watch in Season 2
In season 2 episode 1, Yumeka Kido, Chinatsu's former mini-basketball teammate, appears for the first time. She is voiced by Yoshino Aoyama.
When a new character comes in, the differences between the two become clearer, so it will be worth watching how Taiki's honesty and Chinatsu's restraint collide and connect.
Well then, shall we begin today's adventure?
