Why does the detective who died in Season 1 remain at the center of the story in Season 2? It's not only because Siesta was a great genius.

The people who solved cases with her still have unanswered questions, and the more they follow those questions, the more it's revealed that the seemingly perfect her didn't know everything.

What You Need to Know First (Major Spoilers)

'The Detective Is Already Dead' is a mystery in which the people left behind after the death of Siesta, a genius detective, continue the story of what she and her assistant Kimihiko Kimizuka went through fighting the enemies of the world.

✦ Main Characters

Who keeps coming up in this post

Cast
• Siesta: A genius detective who loses her life in Season 1
• Kimihiko Kimizuka: Siesta's assistant; a high school student who often gets caught up in incidents
• Natsunagi Nagisa: A student at Kimizuka's school who, after a heart transplant, asks him to find an unknown 'X'
• Alicia: A girl who appears with no memory
• Hel: A powerful enemy who threatened Siesta and Kimizuka in Season 1, now sealed inside Nagisa

Kimizuka was a high school student who often got caught up in incidents. One day, when kidnappers took over an airplane, he meets Siesta, a silver-haired girl who calls herself a detective, on that plane.

Siesta tells Kimizuka to become her assistant, and from that day the two solve cases together.

Their opponents aren't just ordinary thieves or murderers. A secret organization called SPES conducts experiments using people's bodies and abilities, and Siesta and Kimizuka face off against it, traveling around the world for three years.

But after a fierce battle, Siesta loses her life. The story's present is one year after that. Kimizuka tries to return to ordinary school life, but his heart, which lost Siesta, doesn't recover.

Then Natsunagi Nagisa, who goes to the same school, comes to see Kimizuka. After receiving a heart transplant, she has come to want to find someone whose identity she doesn't know.

Nagisa calls that person 'X' and asks for help, and Kimizuka begins to move like a detective's assistant again. This request soon leads to Siesta's past and the secrets of SPES.

Alicia, a girl who appears with no memory, also becomes an important clue along the way. They gradually reveal that the people and incidents that looked like separate cases in Season 1 were actually all intertwined.

At the end of Season 1, a particularly important fact is revealed. Siesta died, but her consciousness hadn't vanished completely. The Siesta remaining inside Nagisa's body shows herself to help Kimizuka when he's in danger.

That doesn't mean Siesta came back to life in her old body and returned to their side.

The fact that the body Nagisa lives in and Siesta's consciousness are intertwined, and that another being called 'Hel' is connected inside it too, is the starting point of the story that follows.

Hel was a powerful enemy who threatened Siesta and Kimizuka in Season 1. Why Hel, who was an enemy, is sealed inside Nagisa, and how that relates to Nagisa's past, is the mystery that remains.

✦ New Characters in Early Season 2

Who you meet at the start

Saikawa Yui
An idol who has been through incidents with Kimizuka
Charlotte Arisaka Anderson
Admired Siesta so much she called her 'Mom'
Noches
A maid who looks exactly like Siesta

Knowing this much of the background makes it easier to follow the start of Season 2. Early in the season, Kimizuka, Nagisa, Saikawa Yui, and Charlotte Arisaka Anderson are kidnapped while going to visit Siesta's grave.

Yui is an idol who has been through incidents with Kimizuka, and Charlotte is a former colleague who admired Siesta so much she called her 'Mom.' What the kidnappers show them is a video in which Siesta left the truth about her own death.

Watching it, Nagisa notices something, and before long a maid named Noches, who looks exactly like Siesta, appears and says, 'I have a mission to convey the truth.'

After that, to find out about the 'mistake' Siesta left behind, Kimizuka's group comes face to face with Hel, sealed inside Nagisa.

The memory Hel leads them through goes back to a clinical trial research facility six years ago, where young Nagisa, Siesta, and Alicia were together. Back then, Nagisa was a child called '602' instead of by a name.

Siesta gives that child, who loves the sea, the name 'Nagisa.' It's a scene in which a child called by a test-subject number is called by a person's name.

The fact that the three had been connected from long before overturns the idea that the bond between Nagisa and Siesta began only after Nagisa received Siesta's heart.

Siesta — INFJ 5w6

Siesta can be seen as INFJ 5w6.

✦ Siesta's Type Reasoning

Why INFJ 5w6

INFJSees a case's long-term course and the meaning it leaves for people together
5w6Reduces uncertainty and prepares for danger through knowledge and preparation

The INFJ reading comes from how she doesn't stop at solving a case but thinks about who the result will protect and what meaning it will leave.

Making the client's interest her principle as a detective and even preparing a video to be revealed after her death is an attitude of looking further ahead than the victory in front of her.

5w6 shows in the way she tries to reduce uncertainty and prepare for danger through knowledge and preparation.

The fact that even in moments when she isn't there, she leaves clues and plans so the people left behind can approach the truth, connects with the reading of this type.

✦ Hel: Siesta's View vs. the Memories

One word, 'enemy,' isn't enough

Hel as Siesta saw her
• A dangerous enemy to be stopped
• Really did threaten Siesta and Kimizuka
Following the memories from six years ago
• Can't be explained with the single word 'enemy'
• You have to know the environment Nagisa lived in and how Hel came to exist inside her to understand Hel's present actions

But the question Season 2 raises is whether Siesta understood everything perfectly. She saw Hel as 'a dangerous enemy to be stopped,' and Hel really did threaten Siesta and Kimizuka.

But follow the memories of the research facility six years ago and it turns out Hel can't be explained with the single word 'enemy.'

You have to know what environment Nagisa lived in and through what process Hel came to exist inside her to understand present actions.

Siesta was good at stopping danger, but she couldn't grasp all of the past and inner circumstances of the existence she was confronting. This is the setup that makes Siesta more interesting than a simple all-capable genius.

Kimihiko Kimizuka — ISTP 6w5

Kimizuka looks like an ISTP 6w5. He was originally an ordinary high school student who hates getting involved in incidents, but once a problem appears before his eyes, he can't step back and pretend not to see. He isn't the warm and affectionate type.

But because he went through three years of danger together with her after meeting Siesta on the plane, she is not a legend to be admired from afar but a companion who gave instructions right beside him, nagged him, and moved with him.

✦ Kimizuka's Type Reasoning

Why ISTP 6w5

✔ ISTP: Direct observation on the scene and practical problem solving
✔ 6w5: Checking danger, loyalty to a trusted companion, and analytical verification

The ISTP reading comes from how Kimizuka, rather than explaining his feelings at length, directly checks the situation and clues on the scene and picks the realistic action he can take now.

Even with a video Siesta left, he doesn't just trust it blindly; he checks whether there are gaps in it before deciding the next move.

6w5 shows in how carefully he weighs danger and trust. He can't easily let go of Siesta, who fought alongside him, in his memories, but he doesn't accept every judgment as it is just because he trusts her.

It's the loyalty of a 6, protecting the person you believe in, with the 5 wing added, wanting to gain certainty by gathering materials himself and checking the logic.

So Kimizuka's investigation isn't mere curiosity; it's also an act to understand his companion to the end and protect the people by his side now.

Natsunagi Nagisa — INFP 6w7

Nagisa reads as INFP 6w7. At first she was a client who came to Kimizuka drawn by an inexplicable longing after her heart transplant.

But as the investigation goes on, she comes face to face with who it was she was looking for and what happened to her body and past.

✦ Nagisa's Type Reasoning

Why INFP 6w7

INFP
Understands herself through memories and values that matter to her personally
6w7
The more uncertain things are, the more she seeks answers with a trustworthy companion while still acting herself

Connecting the answer to a case with the meaning of her own life, not just solving a puzzle, makes me wonder if she's an INFP.

The 6w7 side shows in how, in uncertain situations, she asks Kimizuka for help and tries to find answers with a companion she can trust, yet when a clue appears, she tries to face her past directly.

She wants safe relationships and certain answers, but she has an active spirit that doesn't stop acting out of fear.

The memory of receiving the name 'Nagisa' instead of the number '602' is an important scene for understanding this character.

The research facility calls a child by a number and treats her as a test subject, but Siesta asked what that child liked and gave her a name. This short act shows that Siesta was not just a lifesaver to Nagisa but a precious bond who treated her as 'a person.'

Before the relationship connected through the heart transplant, the two had memories of spending time in the same place and recognizing each other.

Nagisa doesn't treat the Hel sealed inside her only as 'an enemy to be destroyed'; through the past Hel knows, she retraces the time she forgot. What matters here is that Nagisa isn't a character who passively writes down Siesta's answers.

While Kimizuka investigates the records left behind, Nagisa directly confirms the truth entangled with her own memories and identity.

In that she accepts others' help but doesn't hand over all the answers to her own life, both the INFP's self-understanding and the 6w7's drive to act show.

<Noches, the girl who looks identical to Siesta, is revealed in the 1st PV.>

Why We Can't Forget Siesta

Why can't the characters forget Siesta? It's not because she was always right. Even the seemingly perfect genius had things she didn't know, and that blank space is revealed through other people's memories only after her death.

I think the story of the dead detective continues because the living are each answering the question she left behind in their own ways.

That's all for this post. See you next time.
