✦ The Two Leads at a Glance

Official profiles and this post's type reading

MBTIRintaro ISFP, Kaoruko ENFP
EnneagramBoth 9w1
HeightRintaro 190cm, Kaoruko 148cm
HobbiesCooking and CD collecting / reading and dramas with her younger brother
ProfileRintaro is quiet; Kaoruko treats everything straight

Rintaro Tsumugi is an ISFP 9w1, and Kaoruko Waguri is an ENFP 9w1. What makes this pairing interesting is that the two share the same Enneagram type, yet the ways they approach people are close to opposites.

Rintaro hesitates inside his heart again and again before cautiously taking one step forward, while Kaoruko opens the door first the moment she spots a good possibility.

One is a kindness that approaches quietly, and the other is a kindness that brightly clears the way. The height gap on their official profiles alone is a full 42cm. Rintaro is 190cm and Kaoruko is 148cm.

Going by the pictures alone, you'd think Rintaro would dominate, but in their relationship the one who approaches first and moves the mood is Kaoruko. That twist is the starting point for reading their personality types.

Rintaro Is an ISFP 9w1, Someone Who Shows Kindness Through Actions

At first glance, it's easy to think of Enneagram type 8 when you see Rintaro. He's 190cm tall with blond hair and a sharp look.

But the core of an 8 isn't size or intimidation; it's the attitude of protecting yourself with your own strength and refusing to be controlled.

Rintaro is closer to someone who thinks people will be scared of him first and steps back, rather than taking control of a situation by force. That's why I read Rintaro as an ISFP 9w1.

✦ Why Rintaro Reads as ISFP 9w1

Kindness seen in actions

✔ Official profile: Helps at the family cake shop; likes cooking and CD collecting
✔ Expressing feelings: Actions come before words
✔ Around Kaoruko: Considers how she felt first and steps back
✔ Later episodes: Faces his feelings in episode 12, tells her directly in episode 13

At the center of an ISFP is a tendency to stay true to inner values and feelings. Add to that a sense for carefully watching what's happening right in front of you and moving directly. Rintaro doesn't wrap his kindness in fancy words.

He helps out at his family's cake shop, likes cooking and collecting CDs, and when he expresses his feelings, actions come before words.

Even from the hobbies on his official profile alone, Rintaro's world is closer to making things with his hands and collecting what he loves bit by bit than to showy displays.

✦ Type Notes

ISFP, ENFP, and 9w1

ISFP
• Centered on introverted feeling (Fi): stays true to personal values
• Supported by extraverted sensing (Se): reacts to the situation at hand
ENFP
• Centered on extraverted intuition (Ne): spots possibilities
• Supported by introverted feeling (Fi): judges by own values and sincerity
9w1
• Type 9: desire for peace and connection
• 1 wing adds principles and diligence

Enneagram type 9 is a type that protects peace of mind and a sense of connection, and the 1 wing adds diligence and standards pointing toward the right direction. So a 9w1 is generally portrayed as soft and quiet, yet someone with a precious standard inside.

This is also why Rintaro can't push hard at Kaoruko from the start. When he thinks she may have been uncomfortable, he considers what she felt before his own heart and steps back so as not to be a bother.

That doesn't mean Rintaro is simply passive. In episode 7, his friends tag along to the meeting with Kaoruko and Subaru and end up hearing Rintaro's true feelings.

In episode 8, six people cross the wall between the two schools and start a new relationship, and Rintaro steps into that relationship too.

Then at the beach in episode 12 he finally faces his own feelings, and in episode 13 he conveys his heart directly to Kaoruko. Someone who always worried about how others would see him moves toward not hiding his heart.

That's the charm of an ISFP 9w1: not raising your voice to change the world, but finding the courage once more in front of someone precious.

Kaoruko Is an ENFP 9w1, Someone Who Turns Possibility into Reality with Kindness

Unlike Rintaro, when Kaoruko finds a possibility she likes, she doesn't wait quietly. After leaving the shop in a hurry following their first meeting, she comes back the next day.

While Rintaro assumes she must have been frightened by his looks, Kaoruko isn't trapped in that misunderstanding and makes a chance to keep the relationship going herself.

In episode 2, too, Rintaro learns they go to different schools and expects she won't come to the shop anymore, but Kaoruko shows up again and shatters that expectation first thing.

✦ Why Kaoruko Reads as ENFP 9w1

Turning possibility into action

Official profile
Treats everything straight; likes cake, reading, and dramas with her younger brother
Coming back
Returns the next day after leaving in a hurry
Episode 2
Breaks Rintaro's expectation by showing up again
How she sees people
Trusts the person she met over the mood at school

That's why ENFP suits Kaoruko well. The ENFP's extraverted intuition (Ne) can be described as finding the many possibilities inside a situation in front of you rather than closing it off into a single conclusion.

While Rintaro shrinks back thinking 'that person was scared of me,' Kaoruko moves toward 'I can see this person again.'

Add introverted feeling (Fi), which stays true to her own heart and values, and it becomes natural for her to trust the impression she got from the person she actually met over the mood at school or the lines others have drawn.

The official profile introduces Kaoruko as someone who treats everything straight. She also has an ordinary daily life, with cake, reading, and watching dramas with her younger brother as hobbies. These small details make the character sharper.

Kaoruko isn't a perfect saint who appears to save everyone. She likes delicious cake, wants to meet a person she likes again, and acts on that wish.

Her drive doesn't come only from wanting to become someone indispensable to others; it comes from trusting her own curiosity and sincerity.

So why 9w1 rather than Enneagram type 2? Kaoruko is certainly kind, but her core charm lies less in striving to take on a caretaker role and more in naturally stepping over unnecessary walls between people.

She doesn't try to change someone to her way or take control; she meets them as they are and keeps the conversation going.

If you see it as the 9's pursuit of peace plus the honesty and uprightness of the 1 wing, you can explain Kaoruko's softness without hesitation.

Both Are 9w1, So Why Are They So Different?

✦ Both 9w1, Different Steps

Rintaro vs Kaoruko

Rintaro (ISFP)
• When conflict looms: lowers himself first
• Protects peace by stepping back
• Looks over his heart, then acts concretely
Kaoruko (ENFP)
• When a misunderstanding arises: finds a way to resolve it directly
• Protects peace by stepping closer
• Spots possibility first, then makes it a real meeting

This is where the couple's pairing gets more interesting. By the Enneagram, Rintaro and Kaoruko are both 9w1. Both want to keep the relationship going comfortably rather than pushing the other person.

But when conflict looms, Rintaro lowers himself first, while Kaoruko finds a path to resolve a misunderstanding by approaching directly. Even wanting the same peace, one protects it by stepping back and the other by stepping closer.

MBTI shows this difference even better. Rintaro's ISFP looks over his own heart for a long time and then turns it into concrete action.

Kaoruko's ENFP spots the possibility of the relationship getting better first and carries that possibility into an actual meeting.

That Rintaro can't trust Kaoruko's kindness at first, and that Kaoruko isn't blocked by his hesitation and doesn't step back, fit this contrast well.

✦ How Their Relationship Changes

From first meeting to confession

1First meeting and a misunderstanding
2Kaoruko comes back
3A relationship beyond the schools' prejudice
4Connection among their friends
5Rintaro's confession and a reread first meeting

At the end of the season, this difference comes back as a lovely twist. In episode 12, Rintaro reveals his heart at the beach, and in episode 13 he talks with Kaoruko again at the summer festival.

It also comes out that Kaoruko's memory of their first meeting differs from Rintaro's. Rintaro first thought he had frightened her, but their story had begun much earlier than he thought.

The flow of Rintaro, who had been trapped inside a conclusion he reached alone, creating new memories with Kaoruko is completed here.

So here's the two of them in a word. Rintaro is an ISFP 9w1, someone who shows quiet kindness through small actions and big courage.

Kaoruko is an ENFP 9w1, someone who reaches out without hesitation once she finds the possibility in a person and a relationship. Both want a peaceful, sincere relationship, but their steps toward it differ.

That's why they could change a little bit by meeting each other.

That's all for this post. See you next time.
